Lecture Abstract:
The relationship between periodontal and orthodontic therapy has become increasingly relevant in contemporary interdisciplinary dentistry. This presentation, “Perio-Ortho Synergy: Clinical Evidence and Long-Term Stability,” will explore how coordinated periodontal and orthodontic approaches can improve clinical outcomes, enhance treatment predictability, and support long-term stability.
The lecture will review the biological principles that govern tooth movement in periodontally healthy and compromised patients, highlighting the importance of inflammation control, periodontal phenotype assessment, bone support, and soft tissue management before, during, and after orthodontic treatment. Current clinical evidence will be discussed regarding orthodontic treatment in patients with reduced periodontal support, the role of periodontal regeneration, mucogingival procedures, and the impact of orthodontic forces on periodontal health.
Special emphasis will be placed on treatment planning, risk assessment, timing of periodontal interventions, and maintenance protocols designed to prevent relapse and disease recurrence. Through clinical examples and evidence-based recommendations, the presentation will demonstrate how collaboration between periodontists and orthodontists can optimize function, esthetics, and long-term stability.
